Edward Cullen sighed, a new school, the same old boring things being taught.
Alice as bubbly as ever laughed from the passenger seat of the Volvo, “Edward lighten up, this is going to be fun!”
“I don’t know what you are seeing Alice, but you had better speak up now,” he stared her down.
She laughed, “Now, now Edward, calm down, all in good time.”
Jasper laughed, “Alice be nice”
“Nope!”
Emmett chuckled, “Your going to get it Edward, she hasn’t gotten this hysterical in a long time…”
Edward spoke through his teeth, terrified at what his sister has seen, “I know”
Alice’s laughter died down, “Oh don’t worry Edward, it isn’t bad, trust me.”
Looking out the window, out to the building, that they would “learn” in he spoke, “And why on earth would I do that?”


Great, trigonometry, like I haven’t learned this before. Edward sighed again, for about the tenth time this morning. He desperately tried to ignore the thoughts of the other guys in the class, it really sickened him, that they thought like that. It couldn’t be helped though.
“Hey, Vera what is going on, did you do the homework?” one girl asked  entering by the door.
“Uh, duh, I can do this in my sleep.” another voice said. This one sounded strange, similar to Alice’s wind chime voice. Edward turned around to see the speaker and meet to meet a golden eyed girl.
He acted in a way he never thought he would, he stared, thinking things he condemned other’s for. He looked at her, she looked familiar, yet different at the same time. Pale skin, soft, beautiful features, dark brown with a slight bit of red, shoulder length hair, that softly curled. He gaped, his train of thought, broke, and he failed to put two and two together.
She looked down at him and frowned, he let himself slip and read her thoughts, to see what troubled her. Oh joy! Another mindless idiot, though this one is sitting in my seat… is he one of - He broke off, not enjoying what he heard.
“Umm, you are sitting in my seat.” she mumbled.
“Uh?” he said, unsure of himself.
She laughed, “You are sitting in my seat.”
If he could have blushed, he would have. And not just for acting like an idiot. He rose immediately, apologizing.
“It’s okay, don’t spaz out, I am not going to kill you for sitting in my seat.” she laughed more. He loved her laughter, he wanted to hear more of it, it was so light and free.
“Edward” he offered his name.
He got the desired effect, she smiled a soft smile as she spoke, “Vera, Vera Rose Night.”
Vera, a very uncommon name, Edward thought to himself, but very beautiful, it means truthful rose. He gave his full name also before being interrupted by the girl who was originally speaking to Vera.
“And I am Sara.” the short, black haired girl said.
Edward shot her a small smile and thankfully the teacher entered the room, to end the talking with Sara.
Sara giggled at Vera and wrote her a note, he watched her, hearing what she wrote down in her head. WoW, he is such a hottie! and boy does he have it for u! did u see him staring? well of course u did, u r eyes miss nothing! so what do u think??
She passed the note to Vera, sitting next to her. Edward smiled to himself.
Vera laughed a bit, and bent down to write. Well, he is rather - she stopped, turning around she shot Edward a glare. The glare sent shivers down Edward’s spine. She turned back to the paper and continued to write. This time when Edward attempted to read her head, he ran into a brick wall. This confused him, he has never had this happen before.
When the note was passed to Sara, he still ran into a wall, this puzzled him completely, and he had a feeling that Carlisle couldn’t help him this time.
His head was filled with thoughts of Vera, questions such as, how she could block her mind from him, who she was, why did she have that effect on him?
The bell rang, causing him to almost run out the door, he had a feeling that Alice knew that this would happen, his question was answered when he saw Alice laughing hysterically in their next class together.
“Speak.”
She laughed, “no.”
“Alice” he growled.
“Edward, calm down, you will find out soon enough!”
“So you know about Vera?”
Alice smiled, “So that is her name. I just saw some girl bothering the heck out of you, and she only said a few words!”
Then she abruptly became serious, “Edward, you know what she is right?”
He paused, taken back, “What? Who is she, what do you know Alice?”
The short, spiky haired girl sat down in a desk at the back of the room, “Edward, she is one of us.”
